Microbial corrosion (MIC) is a serious problem in concrete drainage system. Under anaerobic conditions, anaerobic microorganisms reduce sulfate in wastewater to sulfide, and combine with hydrogen ion in water to produce hydrogen sulfide gas. Under the action of microorganism, hydrogen sulfide is oxidized to sulfuric acid, which reacts with calcium hydroxide in concrete and transforms it into calcium sulfate, causing concrete corrosion. Once hydrogen sulfide corrosion occurs in concrete facilities, its service life is generally less than 10 years, and microorganisms play a key role in the corrosion process.
"Concrete shield" is a kind of strong cationic polymer. Most bacteria will break and die when they contact the concrete treated by "concrete shield". The break of cell membrane is caused by potential difference and will not induce gene variation of microorganism.
